 Doggin' America's Coastal Islands

The Area monk inhabits the more expensive islands: Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel. It's a house cat-sized carnivore linked to the gray fox of the mainland and lives on deer mice. San Miguel is famous to truly have the greatest number of seals and sea elephants (pinnipeds, this means "feather-feet") reproduction on their shores. Applying heightened approaches for aging old material in 1999, researchers outdated the bone at 13,000 years old, making this the oldest known incidence of people in the Americas. This obtaining adds support to the idea that the first inhabitants of North and South America appeared by boat.

The first American to set foot in what's today Florida, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo wintered here but died from a fall. Nevertheless his severe has never been found, monuments honor him on San Miguel Island and in San Diego.After the Chumash were eliminated to mainland objectives about 1814, the area was held by a variety of people. They provide cruising trips aboard a schooner, too. In 1978, The Character Conservancy obtained a pursuit in Santa Cruz Island from the Santa Cruz Area Company.
